Memphis Cyclists Conquer the "Hell of the South": Strong Showing at Rouge Roubaix XXIV

Tulio J Bertorini | Published on 3/6/2026
ST. FRANCISVILLE, LA – The legendary Rouge Roubaix returned for its 24th year, once again proving why it is revered as one of the most grueling spring classics in the Southern United States. Amidst the scenic but punishing landscape of West Feliciana Parish, a dedicated contingent of Memphis-area cyclists traded the Bluff City for the brutal "Louisiana cobblestone," dirt, and gravel of the 100+ mile course.

The Memphis delegation didn't just participate; they dominated key categories and "suffered well" across a course known for testing handling, power, and pure resilience.

Local Heroes Lead the Pack
Highlighting the weekend's achievements, Tim secured an impressive 3rd place podium finish in the highly competitive Masters 45+ category. Not far behind in the overall standings,
David Ax, a prominent member of the Memphis Hightailers Board of Directors, powered through to a 9th place Overall finish.

The depth of Memphis talent was on full display as the city placed three racers in the Top 20 overall, a testament to the rigorous training miles put in back home on the roads and trails of Shelby County.

901 Racing: Grit and Determination
The 901 Racing team showed up in force, navigating the "good, the bad, and the ugly" of the Feliciana backroads. Beyond the top-ten finishes, several other local riders fought through the dust and vibration to represent the 901:
  • Lukas Hooper and Cole McDaniel both delivered strong performances, showcasing the endurance and skill required to finish one of the South's toughest races.
  •
  • Jim Wilder also successfully tackled the brutal mix of road and gravel, rounding out a successful weekend for the squad.
Congratulations to all the Memphis area riders who faced the grit of the Rouge Roubaix. Your performance continues to put Memphis on the map as a powerhouse in the regional cycling community!
