Bike route to Belz

FYI that section of the greenway is fine for riding and is a nice woodsy ride. It also takes you under Gtown Pkwy to the east side of Gtown Pkwy without dealing with the Humphries/Gtown Pkwy intersection which can be crazy at rush hour.
I've driven (but not ridden yet) a route from my house (on Houston Levee just North of Macon) to University of Memphis. I'm planning on using it once the fall semester starts. This is the route from school: From U of M/Central... Take Central to Goodlett Left on Goodlett- Cross Poplar Right on Tuckahoe Right at Grove Park Left on Shady Grove- Take shady grove all the way to Humphries Right on Humphries (I noticed here that you could turn left off of Humphries onto the Germantown greenway and ride all the way to Chick Fil A, but I haven't scoped it out yet to see if it's clean and tire-friendly) Left on G'Town Parkway (or Right out of the Chik Fil A parking lot if you took the greenway) Right on Walnut Bend- Take Walnut Bend to Trinity Right on Trinity Left on Sanga Right on Rocky Point Left on Blake Right into new neighborhood (don't know street names, but it allows you to bypass traffic on narrow part of Macon Rd.) Right on Macon At next intersection, Macon takes a sharp left- Just keep going straight through the industrial area Left at end of Industrial area road Right on Macon Next, I turn left onto Far Drive (my neighborhood), but if you keep going straight, you can turn left on Houston Levee. It is busy, but the section from Macon to 64 has a small shoulder. Far drive comes out on Houston Levee almost a mile North of the macon/Houston Levee intersection Hope this helps!
I also read or saw it somewhere that there is supposed to be seperate bike lanes eventually. Keep your fingers crossed but don't hold your breathe!
Hey just to let everyone know, if you didn't see it this past Saturday for the RWB. They are finishing up the construction on Canada Road from I-40 to Highway 64. This should make it easier and safer for those that want to ride on Canada Road.
Wow-- this is great. I now have no excuse regarding riding to Belz (except for the extra zillion miles it adds to my total for the day). Thanks very much, ya'll. This board has worked for at least one route question.
Fred has a good route, I used to use the same way to get out there when I lived in Cordova with one exception. Instead of taking 64 all the way to Canada road from Countrywood, I would take a left toward Stonebridge golf course. I don't remember the street name but there is a light, and on your right is a subdivision called Morning Woods (kids keep taking the "s" off the sign, pretty funny). Anyway, take a left and go up the hill and wind through Stonebridge. After you go over I-40 take a right (I think this is Davies Plantation Rd). That will kick you out at the Texaco across from Huff and Puff Rd. You have to manuever through the traffic at I-40 and Canada road to get to Belz, but I prefer that over Hwy 64 and Canada Rd, especially seeing they have all that construction south of I-40 on Canada Rd. Hope this helps.
If you are coming north on G'Town Pkwy turn right at the light just past Lowe's on Walnut Bend. Follow Walnut Bend north. At Timber Creek it will change names to Cully, continue north. Go across the paved over RR tracks. Go straight through the stop sign (3 way stop) at Macon. At the next intersection (4 way) go straight. Harding school will be on your right. At the next stop sign past the school, continue straight on Beaver Trail. At Beaver Trail and Shallow Glen continue straight on B. Trail. It winds through an area of zero lot line homes. At the next 4 way stop keep going straight and the road will curve to the right. At this point exit to the left from the subdivision on to Old Dexter and turn right. Go to the next stop sign and then turn left at the stop sign at the T intersection. I can't remember this street's name. Anyway after turning left you will see a stop sign at Dexter. When you get there turn right and ride to the 4 way stop at Dexter and Chimney Rock and turn left into the Country Wood Subdivision. Chimeny Rock school will be on your left. At the next intersection turn right on Littlemore. Follow Littlemore until you get to Rock Creek Parkway and then turn right. RC Parkway will now take you to Hwy 64, which allows you to avoid the mall traffic. Turn right on 64 and follow it east until you get to Canada Road. Turn left and follow it to the Belz Mall.
Cliff - I have ridden out there a few times from Germantown and Stout area. I don't think there is a peaceful route, but my route at least feels *relatively* safe. Here is my route: (~16 miles) -Somehow get to G-town Pkwy -N on G-town Pkwy to the Wolfchase (the shoulder is actually not too bad) -Turn R into Wolfchase parking lot and go all the way around back and then turn right towards Hooters - The road is actually New Brunswick -Cross 64 on that road -1st Right past 64 on Brunswick Rd -Right on Pembroke-Ellis Road -Right on Davies Plantation -Right on Canada Rd to cross back over I-40 -Belz is on the left. If I need to get out there for a morning ride when traffic is not bad: (~13 miles) -G-town Pwy to R on Rock Creek Pkwy (through Country Wood) -R.C. Pkwy to R on 64 -Shoulder of 64 to L on Canada Rd. -Canada Rd to R into Belz Either way the roads are not GREAT (especially around rush hour), but it sure beats driving :-) Good Luck Lance
Does anyone have recommendations of a relatively peaceful biking route from E. Memphis to the Belz mall? I'd like to ride from there on some of the scheduled rides but I really do not want to drive there.
